In the KITCHEN – 3rd Crafty Pantry Food Festival in Bearwood

Posted by on Sep 14, 2016 in Crafty Pantry Food Festival Bearwood 2016 | 0 comments

What’s happening in the Church’s kitchen?

Every year, we are serving hot drinks in the kitchen and this year is no difference, the hot drinks are £1 and if you just need a glass of water, we shall just give it to you for free. For more drinks there will be a lemonade stall this year and of course there is Darren’s Defruitbar or you can have a pint.

NEW this year is that Deb and young Jenni are serving toasties in the kitchen including veggie and even a vegan offering (I taste tested it and it is yummy, tough job, but someone’s got to do it).

Who is M + K Take Away?

polish-take-away

M + K is a take away on the Bearwood Road and they got involved last year with great success. Their goulash and potato cakes is legendary and those who tried it last year, have been back for me during the year. Polish food is addictive because it’s yummy. A friend of mine said once: Polish food is like a warm hug. And it’s true, try it and you see what we mean. Even better, they are here all year round, so if you like it, you can go back.

What to expect on the day?

Lots of yummy Polish food such as goulash.

These guys had us at “sweet and savoury pancakes”. I mean seriously, what else is there to say other than: bring cash and a great appetite. Ever since reading that these guys are available for weddings, I have been seriously contemplating renewing my vows. So you got to think until Saturday if you want sweet or savoury and if you prefor lemon and sugar or chocolate spread.

What can you expect?

We have a lot of time for Ita’s lovely jams, scones and biscuits. She actually grows all the fruit herself, picks it and then jams it. We call that dedication to the jamming process. The scones and the biscuits have been hits in previous year’s too, so don’t miss out. Do I need to mention that jam is a lovely Christmas present for those in your family that seem to have it all? Everyone loves jam.

Who is Rock&Roll Brewhouse?rock-n-roll-1

We thought, we invite another brewery this year onto the High Street since we know got the licensing application process sussed. And it’s even better, if it’s a Bearwood resident that brews the beer (in the Jewellery Quarter but still).  They are Birmingham’s only 100% vegan brewery and the only brewster. They are pitching up right outside Bearwood Baptist Church. Come down and enjoy a pint. We shall meet you at the bar.

What can you expect on the day?

Smethwick Foodbank – 3rd Crafty Pantry Food Festival in Bearwood

Who is Smethwick Foodbank?

Right from the first Food Festival, we felt that it was not right to indulge in foodie delights without thinking of those who find themselves in a situation having to use the Foodbank. Many people who live right here in our community are Foodbank users. It was a given for us that the Foodbank would have a table and once again this year they will be at the event. Christina from the Foodbank asked me to share this: “We will be there to collect any food or donations of money all of which goes directly to people in the local area using the food bank. We will also have food collection baskets available for people to take to their place of work to collect food. There will be shopping lists detailing the types of food we require and info on volunteering opportunities.”

What you can do on the day:

  • Bring food donations
  • Bring cash and donate
  • Buy raffle tickets (our raffle will be split between the Foodbank and Bearwood Action for Refugees)
  • Take a collection basket and put it up in your workplace
  • Pick up a shopping list with details about what kind of food the Foodbank needs
  • Get info about volunteering opportunities
